Why Choose South Side Suzuki Cooperative?
Suzuki Education
Often called the “mother-tongue” approach, the Suzuki Method was developed by Shinichi Suzuki, who believed children learn from their environment just as they learn language through listening and imitation. Treating music as a language, the method emphasizes early instruction, repetition, listening, parental involvement, and community learning.
Performance Opportunities
We offer numerous performance opportunities for our students throughout the year. Our students perform in solo recitals, group concerts, honors recitals, masterclasses, and numerous community events.
Excellent Location
We are based at the Hyde Park Neighborhood Club and are thrilled to be part of this vibrant community in the heart of Hyde Park. While lessons and classes take place at HPNC, we continue to hold concerts in some of Chicago’s most beautiful performance spaces, including the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, PianoForte Studios, and the Symphony Center.
Cooperative Model
Students benefit from the intimacy and flexibility of a private studio while also enjoying the social and musical advantages of group classes and activities. Through our cooperative model, teachers are paid a higher average hourly rate while tuition remains competitive with other programs. Tuition dollars go directly to supporting teachers, concerts, and community programming rather than administrative overhead.
Community-Centered
At South Side Suzuki Cooperative, we nurture musical children while creating a fun, family-centered experience and a welcoming community. We proudly partner with south side organizations including the Hyde Park Neighborhood Club, the Logan Center for the Arts, University Church, Music Teachers of Hyde Park, and the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools.
“An unlimited amount of ability can develop when the parent and child are having fun together”
