Rebekah Dotzel

Cello Faculty

Rebekah Dotzel is a freelance cellist and educator based in Chicago. Rebekah’s teaching takes many forms, including a studio of Suzuki and traditional private lessons for all ages, group classes, ensemble coaching, and an adult student cello choir. She is currently on faculty at Merit School of Music, New Music School, and South Side Suzuki Cooperative. As a teacher, Rebekah strives to help students lay a strong technical foundation on their instrument while finding their own voice and artistry.

An active performer, Rebekah can be found playing all around the Greater Chicago area at venues including Epiphany Center for the Arts, Allstate Arena, and Martyr’s, among many others. Though classically trained, she finds joy in performing in many different capacities including classical, new music, experimental, pop/rock, and improvisation.

Rebekah earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Music at the University of Iowa in her hometown of Iowa City under the instruction of Hannah Holman. She holds a Master’s Degree in Music from Longy School of Music where she studied with Terry King. She has furthered her pedagogy education in the Suzuki Method under Tanya Carey and Jean Dexter.

When she isn’t on stage or in the classroom, Rebekah loves playing board games, finding new recipes to try, and spending time with her husband Adam and pet bunny Ham.
