Why choose South Side Suzuki Cooperative?
Often referred to as the 'mother-tongue' approach, founder Shinichi Suzuki began developing his method with the realization that children can and will learn from their environment. He witnessed children across the globe master their complicated native languages with ease through absorption and mimicry. Dr. Suzuki, believing that music is also a language, created a philosophy of early music instruction based on principals that parallel the environment of acquiring a native language. Key factors of the Suzuki approach include repetition, listening, parental involvement, community learning, and beginning instruction at an early age.
We offer numerous performance opportunities for our students throughout the year. Our students perform in solo recitals, group concerts, honors recitals, masterclasses, and numerous community events.
Concerts and group classes are held in the centralized south side neighborhood of Hyde Park, Chicago. Group classes are held at the state-of-the-art Logan Center for Performing Arts. Here students have the experience of learning and performing in professional grade recital halls and classrooms.
In addition to Suzuki group classes our students have the opportunity to participate in chamber ensembles, performance classes, orchestra, music theory classes, and early childhood education.
Cooperative business model
Students enjoy the intimacy and flexibility of a private studio, along with the social and musical benefits of group classes and activities. Due to our unique cooperative model, our teachers are paid the highest average hourly rate of any music program in the city, even though our tuition rates are competitive with other programs. This is because your tuition dollars go directly to your teachers, rather than to supporting administrative overhead!
At South Side Suzuki Cooperative we strive to foster musical children, a fun family experience, and a welcoming community. We are partners with numerous south side organizations such as the University of Chicago, University Church, and Music Teachers of Hyde Park.
